Man bags 3 years’ imprisonment for N14.8m car fraud

An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced one Akiniyi Adekunle to three years’ imprisonment with hard labour for N14.8 million car fraud.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Bolanle Adebowale, sentenced Adekunle after finding him guilty on a four-count charge of conspiracy, stealing, unlawful conversion and fraud.

Adebowale held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

She, however, gave Adekunle an option of N750,000 fine.

Earlier the Prosecutor, Sgt. Ahmed Moshood, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Feb. 28, 2016, at Olomore area of Abeokuta.

Moshood said that the defendant fraudulently converted N14.8 million belonging to one Mr Becklay Samuel.

He submitted that Samuel sent different cars worth N14.8 million from abroad to the defendant to sell for him.

The prosecutor said that the defendant sold the cars and converted the money to his personal use.

According to him, some of the offences contravene Sections 419, 390(9) of the Criminal Law of Ogun State, 2006.
