The magistrate did not give the convict an option of fine, saying that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others.
Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Patrick Agbonifo, told the court that Sakpra committed the theft with others at large, on Jan. 23, at a First Bank branch at Adesuwa Junction, Sapele Road, Benin.
He said that Sakpra stole the sum from one Mr Andrew Igbodidi, after cleaning his face with a white handkerchief to make him unconscious.
Agbonifo said that Sakpra confessed that he had robbed one Mr Ehis Unemhin at a place close on the Textile Mill Road, Benin.
“The defendant during an investigation confessed to have used handkerchief to clean the victim’s face to dispossess him of the money.
“Sakpra said when he uses the handkerchief to clean a victim’s face, he usually losses consciousnesses and obeys all his instructions and,” he said.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of the defunct Bendel State, 1976, now applicable in Edo.
