Makarfi writes INEC, OGSIEC on Ogun PDP exco
As the Local Government elections draw near in Ogun State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has written the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele as the party’s chairman in the state.
It also urged the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) to accord Ogundele the necessary co-operation ahead of the October 8 elections.
Copies of the two letters, dated July 14, 2016 and addressed to the INEC Secretary in Abuja and OGSIEC Chairman in Abeokuta, respectively, urged the OGSIEC to deal with the Party Executives led by Hon Sikirulai Ogundele who was a former Chairman of Ifo Local Government and two-term State Assembly member.
This is coming in the wake of lingering leadership tussle between Ogun PDP factions, which are loyal to Senator Buruji Kashamu and a House of Representatives member, Oladipupo Adebutu.
While Kashamu has backed the Chief Adebayo Dayo-led factional chairman, Adebutu and other prominent chieftains in the party have aligned with the Ogundele-led executive.
The PDP, in the letter signed by its Secretary, National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ben Obi, told INEC that the authenticity of the Ogun State Executive Committee was informed by the order of Justice Mobolaji Ojo of the State High Court.
