Low turnout mars Niger PDP LGA campaign flag off

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) campaign flag off in Niger state recorded a low turnout, just as there was hostility from Nigerlites who were chanting ‘Bamu so’ (we don’t want).

The campaign rally, which took place in Kontagora on Thursday was greeted with poor turnout from residents of the local government area and party members from across the state.

Investigations by our correspondent revealed that the poor turnout was not unconnected with the level of under development in the state caused by the PDP led administration for the past 16 years.

It would be recalled that the APC on Tuesday had its flag off campaign in Minna and led by the state governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, where he told his supporters to vote in APC candidates and ensure PDP remains out of power.

The chanting slogans in Hausa language such as, “Bamu yi”, (We don’t want PDP) filled the atmosphere in Kotangora.

The APC is fast gaining support from the electorates in the state, as the party has intensified its campaign strategies to win the forthcoming local government elections.

However, the former governor of Niger state, Engr. Abdulkadir Abdullahi Kure apologised on behalf of the PDP saying “it was unfortunate for the party to derail after 16 years of its administration but we apologise for our wrong doings; we have learnt our lessons as a political party that wanted to rule for 60 years.”
