Liver fluke: Residents commend Kiyawa LG over provision of drugs

Residents of Fusan village in Kiyawa Local Government Area of Jigawa have commended the Local Government Council for providing drugs to deworm their animals of liver fluke.
The council’s Information Officer, Malam Balarabe Abdullahi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Tuesday that the beneficiaries made the commendation when they visited the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the council, Alhaji Abdullahi Sulaiman.
Abdullahi said the council had provided drugs, including injections, to deworm animals of liver fluke that had manifested in the area recently.
He quoted the chairman as saying that the council would continue to provide animal health care in order to improve the economic status of the people.
Dr Rabiu Miko, a former Director of Veterinary Services, Jigawa Ministry of Agriculture, told NAN that the disease was common among animals during the dry season.
Miko said that animals usually contracted the ailment from the water they drank from streams due to acute shortage of water.
According to him, vaccines and other dewormers were used to cure the animals of the disease. (NAN)
