LG pensioners are really suffering – Oyo NLC chairman

Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Oyo state wing, Comrade Waheed Olojede has lamented about the sorry state of pensioners in Nigeria and Oyo State in particular over unpaid gratuities and pensions.

He wondered why somebody would use his productive years to serve the nation and his state and denied his dues after retiring from active service.

Olojede expressed this view in an interview with The Daily Times in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital.

He pointed out that the case of state workers who have retired is even better than those of their Local Government
counterparts.

He said that pensioners in councils have been having it so bad since 2008 in terms of payment of their gratuities and pensions, “most especially the teachers.”

The NLC State Chairman however, stated that, the union has not been silent on the issue and that most of the problems on ground are inherited ones and that no stone would be left unturned to resolve them.

“We’ve had series of meetings with the state government on this matter. And they have assured us that as the financial situation of the state improves, everything would take its proper shape.

“All of us know that the nation is in a period of recession, but this is not to say that we are defending the government or shirking our responsibilities. But very soon, things will improve,” Olojede reiterated.
