Lean weekend for Nigerians abroad

It was a very poor weekend for Nigerians in Europe from a goalscoring perspective at the weekend.

In England (Premiership), Kelechi Iheanacho was introduced after 70 minutes in place of David Silva as Manchester City defeated bottom club, Aston Villa 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium.

John Obi Mikel played all 90minutes as champions, Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw by Stoke City.

Emmanuel Emenike played for 61 minutes as West Ham United came from two goals down to defeat Everton 3-2 at Goodison Park.

Victor Moses was not listed by the Hammers’ manager, Slaven Bilic.

Odion Ighalo played the entire game but failed to prevent a defeat for Watford against high-flying Leicester City at Vicarage Road.

In Germany (Bundesliga), it was an emotional day for Leon Balogun as he lined up for Mainz 05 against his former club, Darmstadt in a 0-0 draw at the Coface Arena.

Anthony Ujah was dropped to the bench and in his absence Werder Bremen won handsomely, 4-1 against Hannover 96 at Wesserstadion to move out of the relegation zone.

In Italy (Serie A), Sadiq Umar was not listed by the AS Roma trainer, Luciano Spaletti as the Giallorossi smacked Fiorentina 4-1 to increase their stranglehold on third spot.

Joel Obi played the final four minutes for Torino in the 1-1 draw with SS Lazio at Stadio Olimpico di Torino with Ogenyi Onazi an unused substitute for the visitors.

In France (Ligue 1), Vincent Enyeama started in goal for Lille OSC in the 2-0 win over Reims at Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Elderson Echiejile played all 90 minutes for AS Monaco in the 2-2 draw with Caen at Stade Michel d’Ornano.

In Turkey (Süper Lig), Godfrey Oboabona played all 90 minutes for Caykur Rizespor in the 0-1 loss to Bursaspor at Timsah Arena.

Raheem Lawal and Aminu Umar both played for 90 minutes as Osmanlispor drew 1-1 with Gaziantepspor at Osmanli Stadi.

Kenneth Omeruo was on from start to finish for Kasimpasa in the 2-1 win over Antalyaspor at Recep Tayyip Erdogan Stadyumu.

Portugal (Primeira Liga), Abdullahi Shehu played all 90 minutes for União Madeira in the 0-0 draw with Belenensis at Estádio do Centro Desportivo da Madeira.

Michael Uchebo replaced Gabriel Rueben in the 46th minute of Boavista’s 0-1 defeat to Nacional at Estádio do Bessa Século XXI.

Obiora Nwankwo was not listed for Académica in the 2-0 win over Vitória Guimarães at Estádio EFAPEL.

Chidozie Awaziem was an unused substitute for FC Porto in the 1-3 defeat to Sporting Braga at Estádio AXA.

In Belgium (Pro League), Moses Simon played in the final 12 minutes of KAA Gent’s 1-1 draw with OH Leuven at GHELAMCO-arena
