Lalong releases 39 prison inmates in Plateau

Lalong

The Plateau state governor, Simon Lalong, has secured the release of 39 prison inmates in Shendam in Shendam local government of the state. The prisoners were serving serious jail terms in the prison.

Lalong effected their liberty by paying the fines of the inmates, which amounted to N465,700, as some of them were still in custody because of their inability to pay the fines.

The governor, who visited the Shendam prison on Tuesday, gave the statistics of the freed convicts which indicated that 11 of them are from Jos Prisons,13 from Shendam Prisons, six from Pankshin Prisons and nine from Prisons Farm Centre in Lakushi.

Meanwhile, the state government is to introduce Town Hall Meetings in all local governments in the state to make known government’s score cards to its citizens.

State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mallam Ahmad Muhammad Nazif, disclosed this yesterday in a chat with journalists in Jos.

Nazif was alarmed that the Rescue Government is doing a lot but only little is communicated to the people, hence the need for introducing the monthly media briefing by the ministry.

He, however, explained that this year, the ministry is going beyond media briefing to engaging the citizens of the state in the project, stressing that information will be carried to the grassroots people in all the local governments in their local languages which will be more acceptable.

While saying that the information dissemination is still at its low ebb.

Nazif assured that efforts are on the way towards connecting the 17 councils of the state on the digital television. He said that the state which started on a good footing will ensure its activities affect every part of the state.
