Lagos State Government, bans the movements of trucks and trailers in the state, during the day

Lagos State Government through the Commissioner for Transportation has banned the movements of trucks and trailers in the state, during the day.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, January 27, by the Commissioner, Frederic Oladeinde, during a meeting in Ikeja, with truck owners in the state.
The Commissioner said the new directive is to help reduce the level of traffic congestion on the roads during the day. He said trucks and trailers are now to move only at nights, from 9pm to 6am.
According to him, the directive is as a matter of necessity, because the Apapa area is becoming useless to investors due to the gridlock and activities of truck drivers in the area.
He appealed to those involved to cooperate with the state government.
The Special Adviser to the state Governor on Transportation, Oluwatoyin Fayinka, also said that any one who violates the directive will face serious penalties.
He advised truck owners to get their act together and comply with the directive.

He also advised truck owners to work hand in hand with the State Vehicle Inspection Services and the Federal Road Safety Corps, to make sure that all their vehicles are in order and also try to get parks outside Apapa.
The Director, Transport Operations, Engr. Abdulhafis Toriola, said that vehicles above 6ft, with three sets of number plates, are considered trucks and Articulated Vehicles.
