Lagos State accounts for 12.8% of telecom subscribers in Nigeria

Lagos State, Nigeria’s largest commercial hub, is accounting for 19.04 million, representing 12.8 percent of telecommunications voice subscribers in Nigeria, which is put at 154 million by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in its last subscriber’s data report.
The Nigerian Bureau of Statistics gave in its first quarter telecommunications sector report that Lagos State also accounts for 12.62 million internet subscription, which represents 13.65 percent of the 92 million Internet subscribers in Nigeria.
Many of the key players in the telecommunications sector are located in Lagos State as it is rated as one of the most viable cities in Africa to do business.
The state has enhanced the ease of doing business in the State through its one-stop-shop (Lagos Global) so as to attract more Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) as well as increase its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to the position of the second largest economy in Africa.
However, the report also indicated that Bayelsa, Yobe, Ebonyi, Ekiti and Zamfara have the least number of Internet users in the country as follows: Bayelsa- 689, 801; Yobe -752,156; Ebonyi- 772,777; Ekiti – 857,690 and Zamfara – 861,976.
