Lagos records another fire incident in Agboju

Barely one week after the Abule – Ado explosion, another fire incident has reportedly occurred at Yahaya Close, off Casco Street, Monkey Village in Agboju, a neighbouring community not too far from Abule – Ado, Lagos.

The fire which started at about 9 am on Sunday, destroyed a shanty structure of 10 rooms, but no casualty was recorded.
Residents alleged that fire service officials were contacted almost immediately the fire started, but did not respond promptly before the fire was put out by residents to avoid the inferno spreading to other buildings.
Although, the cause of the fire is said to be traced to careless handling of combustible household items, no causality was recorded in the fire incident which led to the destruction of properties.

Speaking on the inferno, the Head of Public Affairs, Lagos state Fire Service, Jamiu Dosunmu, said: “There has been a fire outbreak at Yaya Close, off Casco Street, Monkey Village, Domorose by Old Ojo Road, Agboju Amuwo of Oriade Local Council Development Area, Lagos state.
“The fire which was reported to the Lagos state Fire Service at about 9: 25 am on Sunday, destroyed a shanty structure of 10 rooms, but was not allowed to spread to adjoining buildings of same type in the swampy environment.
“The Nigerian Navy Fire Department was in control of the situation before the Lagos state Fire Service joined them to conclude the operation at 10:41 am.
“There is no casualty as the cause of the fire could be traced to the careless handling of combustible household items from preliminary finding.”
Recall that last Sunday, a suspected gas explosion in Sabo community, Abule -Ado led to the death of 20 persons, with properties worth billions of naira destroyed.
