Lagos LG election: Accord party holds primaries

As preparation towards the July 22 council election in Lagos State intensifies, the Accord Party has conducted its primaries and elected it chairmanship and councillorship candidates.

The primaries was massively attended by party supporters and officials across the state, including Hon Honourable Dauda Kakoare, Accord Party member of the House Of Representatives representing Mushin.

Speaking at the event, the chairman of the party in Lagos State, Mr Gbenga Kool, noted that Accord Party was ready for the local government election after the successful conduct of the primaries, stressing that the party would sweep all the chairmanship and councilorship positions for which it presents candidates.

Kool disclosed that the era of godfatherism was gone, adding that the party gave a level playing field for all it candidates which is a demonstration of its belief in democracy.

He said the Accord Party would sweep all positions it candidates contest, while expressing optimism in the ability of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to conduct a free and fair election and correct the wrongs of the past.

He said “Accord Party is a unified party and we stand for unity. This primaries further give credence to our belief in democracy, here there is nothing like godfatherism, we give all our candidates the same level playing field.

“Whoever say we are not on ground is joking, you can see the massive turnout for this primaries, the old, young and aged coming out emmasss to support their candidates and as you can see it has been free and fair.

We expect LASIEC to conduct free and fair election, and we hope they would do the needfull come July. I am sure our party would win all positions our candidate contest for.” Kool added.

Also speaking the Secretary the party in Lagos State, Comrade Lanre Ogundairo expressed delight over the successful conduct of the primaries.

He enjoined the candidates to draw inspiration from Hon Dauda Kakoare an Accord Party member of the House of Representatives from Lagos who won his election against all odds in Lagos.

The party however disclosed that it would only field candidates in areas where it has a strong hold.

The chairmanship candidates that emerged from the primaries are: Hon. Olushekun Abdulakeem (Odi-Olowo), Comrade. Niniola Moruf Adegoke (Orile Agege), and Hon. Afeez Arisekola (mushin).
