Police

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, last Wednesday ordered the immediate removal of the Divisional Police Officer of the Meiran Police Station in Alimosho Local Government of the state for what the police termed extortion, leadership dereliction and supervisory ineptitude.

Also, the police boss has directed the trial of two policemen of Iju police station in the state over the escape of three suspects from lawful custody, last Thursday.

It was gathered that an engineer, one Ibrahim Saliu, a phone dealer had complained that some policemen attached to the Meiran Police Station in Lagos State extorted N200,000 from him on Saturday.

According to a statement by the police spokesperson in Lagos, Benjamin Hundeyin, aside the DPO, all the officers involved in an alleged extortion of a phone dealer have been identified and are currently at the Command Headquarters where their orderly room trial has commenced.

In an exclusive chat with our correspondent SP Benjamin Hundeyin disclosed the officers are facing disciplinary action due to their roles in the despicable and scandalous escape of the three suspects.

SP Hundeyin gave the identities of the officers as Inspector Samuel Aladenika and Sgt. Okpara Uzor, both of Iju police station.

He said the officers were directed by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to convey five suspects from their division to the State police Command headquarters in compliance with the CP’s order when three of the suspects reportedly escaped under suspicious circumstances.
The police spokesman said the trial of the officers would commence at the State police Command headquarters at Ikeja, immediately.

“The escapees are one Rotimi Adeoye, 29, male, Taiwo Kafayat Bolanle, 38, female, and Cynthia Ighalo Idada, 25, female. They were arrested for armed robbery, same sex activities and unlawful possession of firearms and hard drugs, respectively, at different times and locations by operatives of Iju police division.

“According to their various statements given after their arrest, Rotimi Adeoye said the single barrel gun recovered from him belongs to the leader of his robbery gang one Yinka Saka a.k.a ‘General Shadow’ killed during a gun duel with police which ended in Rotimi ‘s arrest and one other, still in our custody.

“The second escapee suspect Taiwo Kafayat Bolanle who was caught indulging in same-sex act with one Ruki Sandra and confessed to have been introduced to the criminal act as a teenage schoolgirl by her School mother. She claimed to have grown up enjoying it more than having sex with men. What baffles us is the fact that the fleeing Taiwo Kafayat Bolanle is married with children but claimed ignorant of the criminality in her same-sex exploits.

“Our record indicates that Cynthia Ighalo Idada escaped from prison during EndSars prison break of 2020. She supplies arms to gangs of criminals terrorising Iji-Ishaga road and its environs in Lagos”, Hundeyin noted.

The police PRO assured that detectives have launched a manhunt for the three suspects, assuring that they would be made to answer for their crimes.

He however enjoined members of the public with information that could lead to the arrest of the three escapees to report to the nearest police station in Lagos State and across country.
