Lagos budgets N750m for state polytechnic

Lagos state government has approved a budget of N750million to get modern facilities for the state-owned polytechnic.
The Rector of the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), Mr. Samuel Sogunro, made this known on Wednesday during the press conference to celebrate the polytechnic’s 25th convocation tagged ‘LASPOTECH Aloft at 40.’
According to him, the polytechnic which was recently ranked 5th in Nigeria is well equipped and was ranked 5th because of its stability in academic calendar and the level of research works.
“Our vision is to be a polytechnic of excellence offering world class educational services and our mission is to produce skilled man power for commerce and industry using modern facilities and competent personnel for the benefit of all,” he said.
The convocation lecture tagged “Unlocking Entrepreneurial and Agricultural Potentials in Tertiary Educational Institutions for National Food Security” will be delivered by Prof Abayomi Fasina of the Ekiti State University on March 7, 2017 to be followed by the convocation ceremony on Thursday March 9, 2017 at the Ikorodu campus.
The Rector explained further that about 9,228 students across all the Polytechnic’s Schools will be graduating with a total of 273 students with Distinction, while 1,223 will be graduating with Upper Credit, 5,693 with Lower Credit and a total of 2,106 will be graduating with Pass.
He however blamed lack of hostel accommodation and traffic gridlocks in Lagos as the cause of students still graduating with Pass saying hopefully by next year, the State government will find a lasting solution by building hostels for students on the campus.
