Kogi 2023 Guber: Kogi Police Command warns political parties against violence

Following the approval by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for political parties to conduct rallies, processions and campaigns for the November Governorship election, Kogi state Police Command issued a stern warning against breach of peace and tranquility.

Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Akeem Yusuf, handed down the warning on Wednesday, while addressing an interactive session with critical Stakeholders and eminent personalities on peace and security towards the November Governorship election, held at the police state headquarters in Lokoja.

CP Akeem said the meeting was timely in view of the misfortunes that has tend to characterize the political activities of recent, most of which has led to massive destruction of lives and properties among other vices.

He urged the political parties to ensure unity, peace and mutual respect for one another, irrespective of different political or religious leanings.

” I urge you to constantly and consistently harp on those attributes that bind us together as a people , and all you need to do is to galvanize your respective positive talents towards the election”, the Police boss stated.

The Commissioner of Police, who described the meeting as a wake up call on the political parties, community and religious leaders, urged them to be prepared to rise to the occasion with maximum commitment for a rancour free governorship election.

He maintained that the Police will always remain neutral, apolitical , professional and committed to providing a level playing ground for all the political parties in the state.

CP Akeem assured that his Command in synergy with other security agencies, will adopt a robust and elaborate security arrangement that would ensure adequate security for all political parties during political rallies and campaigns across the state.

The arrangement include proper monitoring to avoid and apprehend criminals carrying dangerous weapons as well as those uttering hate speech.

He disclosed further that there will be regular meetings with members of the Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, which will ensure adequate deployment of security personnel to cover all the polling units across the state during the election.

He enjoined all the Stakeholders and the entire people of Kogi state to unite and be co-operative to make the state safe and secured throughout the period of election.
