Katsina lawmaker sponsors training of 45 science teachers

A member of the National Assembly (NASS) representing Malumfashi/Kafur Federal Constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Babangida Ibrahim has sponsored the training of 45 science teachers and distributed 40 complete pack-sets and scientific teaching instruments to schools in his constituency.
Malam Tukur Habibu, the Legislative Assistant to the lawmaker, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday that this was to enhance the teaching of science based subjects following the challenges being faced by students and teachers.
Habibu said the effort was to improve both the students and teachers’ performances in the state, adding that the benefiting schools were selected from the constituency.
He said the lawmaker was sure that the schools would ensure good usage and proper handling of the materials.
Habibu advised the schools’ managements and other supervising authorities to ensure judicious use of the items.
He said the lawmaker had also contributed to the development of other sectors that included health, sports, agriculture through the dredging of dams.
He had also supported the educational sector by giving out scholarships to students and payment of examination fees, Habibu said.
According to him, empowerment tools such as knitting, sewing machines were also distributed to women as well as cars, motorcycles, tricycles and business grants to people in his constituency.
He said the ongoing training of science teachers had demonstrated that the lawmaker was determined to improve citizens’ well being.
He urged the people to reciprocate the lawmaker’s gesture by their judicious use of what he had donated.
Speaking earlier, Head facilitator of the programme, Dr Ephraim Ozoihu, said the legislator had partnered Scientific Equipment Development Institute (SEDI) Enugu on the programme aimed at training science teachers on best teaching practices and proper handling of the teaching equipment.
Ozoihu said the institute was under the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructures (NASENI) and the instruments were for basic sciences.
They could be used by pupils of primary and secondary schools, adding that all the equipment were produced with local content materials and technologies.
He said 40 sets of pack-kits were procured by the lawmaker under the partnership stressing that all would be distributed to schools within the constituency.
He expressed optimism that the efforts would improve teaching and learning of science subjects and enjoined other stakeholders to emulate him on efforts to improve the standard of education at all levels.
A beneficiary, Malam AwwaI Ibrahim, who teaches at Government Day Secondary School, Mahuta in Kafur Local Government expressed appreciation over the programme.
He said the teachers had gained a lot of experiences that would enhance their capability in teaching.
He assured him that the efforts would impact positively on educational development in the state and nation at large. (NAN)
