Phyna’s sister dies weeks after accident involving Dangote truck
Ruth Otabor, sister of Phyna, Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, has died , weeks after being involved in a road accident with a Dangote truck.
Punch reported that the family announced her passing on Sunday in a statement issued through Eko Solicitors & Advocates.
“With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st Day of August, 2025 at about 06:30Hrs,” the statement read.
The family added that they are “presently grieving and will appreciate to be given a private moment to mourn the departed,” noting that funeral arrangements would be communicated in due course.
Ruth was involved in a tragic accident on Wednesday, August 13, near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, when a truck linked to the Dangote Group hit her. Eyewitnesses said the heavy-duty vehicle crushed her leg before it was eventually stopped by a bystander.
She underwent surgery that led to a leg amputation but succumbed to complications weeks later.
The incident occurred just six days after Ruth graduated from Auchi Polytechnic, making her death particularly painful for her family, friends, and fans of her sister, Phyna.
