Jigawa empowers 220 widows, divorcees with goats

The Jigawa Government has distributed goats to 220 widows and divorcees in the Roni Local Government Area of the state to empower them.
The Information Officer of the council, Malam Abdullahi Isiya, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sundayin Dutse.
Isiya said the goats were distributed to the widows and divorcees in 11 wards of the council.
According to him, the beneficiaries will pay back in 18 months through a revolving system.
The information officer said that the goats were quarantined to ascertain their health status before distribution.
On June 22 last year, Gov. Muhammad Badaru of Jigawa promised that his administration would empower 8,610 widows in the state.
Badaru said the beneficiaries would be given two goats, male and female to rear, noting that the gesture was to assist widows to train their children.
Isiya said the governor’s gesture of giving goats was because of the economic value of the animal.
“We decided to give widows goats because of their economic values.
“Most of the beneficiaries are rural dwellers, to feed the animals will not be hard for them because of the availability of the animal feeds in their villages,’’ Isiya said.
