itel Brings Water Relief to Kano on World Water Day

In a powerful demonstration of corporate social responsibility, itel, a leading mobile phone and electronics brand, has commissioned an electric-powered borehole in Brigade Gama (B) Kasuwar Takari, a community within Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, effectively solving a long-standing water scarcity crisis.

The life-changing project was unveiled as part of itel’s Love Always On CSR initiative in commemoration of World Water Day 2025, bringing relief to a community that had, for years, suffered from inadequate access to clean and safe water. The new borehole ensures a consistent water supply, made possible by the presence of electricity in the area, and directly aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 – access to clean water and sanitation for all.

Residents of Brigade Gama have long endured the harsh effects of water shortage. Pregnant women, nursing mothers, and food vendors have had to cope with unsafe and limited water sources, leading to health concerns and daily hardships. But this new development has brought a wave of joy and renewed hope.

Speaking at the official handover ceremony, itel’s ATL Marketing Manager, Dolapo Samuel Olorun-nimbe, described the project as a testament to the brand’s people-first philosophy.

“At itel, we believe that access to clean water is not a privilege – it’s a fundamental human right,” Olorun-nimbe said. “This electric-powered borehole is more than a project; it’s a promise. A promise that we see our customers, understand their daily challenges, and are here to make life better in every way possible.”

The event drew a large crowd, including local leaders, health officials, government representatives, and residents who gathered to celebrate the milestone. In his remarks, Suleiman Mohammed Gama, the community leader, expressed heartfelt gratitude to itel for its timely and thoughtful intervention.

“What itel has done today is nothing short of a miracle,” he said. “They didn’t just give us water – they gave us hope, dignity, and a better future.”

Other dignitaries who spoke at the event included Councilor of Gama Ward Abdulkarim Mohammed Ibrahim, Mallam Abdurazaq Ibrahim, the Imam of Gama Mosque, and Ambassador Mohammed Danlarabawa, CEO of Grassroot Care and Aid Foundation. All lauded itel’s initiative, noting that the borehole will improve health outcomes, hygiene practices, and the overall well-being of the community—particularly for expectant mothers and young children.

The officials also called on itel to consider installing solar-powered boreholes in future interventions to ensure sustainability in areas with erratic power supply.

The launch concluded with the symbolic opening of the water facility, accompanied by jubilant songs, cultural displays, and warm exchanges between itel representatives and community members.

This isn’t the first time itel has made such an impactful gesture in Kano. On April 19, 2023, the brand delivered a similar borehole to the Koran Goje community, where over 5,000 residents had long struggled with access to clean water.

Through these efforts, itel continues to live out its Enjoy Better Life brand promise — showing that for the company, improving lives goes far beyond selling gadgets. It’s about building communities, restoring dignity, and creating meaningful, long-term impact.

As itel continues its expansion across Nigeria and Africa, initiatives like this solidify its standing as not just a tech brand, but a responsible and compassionate corporate citizen.
