Insecurity: Police seek synergy with community 

The Plateau State Area Command, Jos-Metro, has reiterated its resolute in eradicating hoodlums within Jos and environs but stated that synergy with the inhabitants of Jos in providing useful information will facilitate its mandate in providing efficient policing.  

Speaking at the monthly Peace Architecture Dialogue (PAD), organised by Search for Common Ground, A Non-Governmental Organisation, the Area Commander and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Patrick O. Edung, stated that the Police is deploying its best practice in the Policing service to ensure that the ‘never do wells’ are flushed out of Plateau.

He also noted that the Police has met with community leaders within Jos especially at crime prone areas and has partnered with them for useful information that will lead to criminal hideouts.

Edung, also revealed that criminal hideout that harbors hoodlums has also been uncovered in a hotel known as Zoma Hotel along Rukuba Road in Jos.

He said another notorious group known in Hausa language as ‘Sarasuka’ that specialised in killing innocent Nigerians has also been uncovered, with a gang of ‘One Chance’ syndicates were intercepted in Jos and when interrogated they were traced to have entered Jos from Benue State.

He called on Nigerians to be vigilant and report any suspected case of criminal to the nearest security outfit.

Responding, participants at the forum tagged Sustainability of Community Security Architecture Dialogue, however, lamented the high rate of crime with special reference to rape and car theft, calling on the Police and other security agencies to step patrol at night hours.
