Infraction: Nigerians urged to demand compensation from telcos

Nigerians have been called upon to demand for compensation from the telecommunications operators over infractions on their rights. Some of the infractions include sur-charges for services not rendered.
CEO of ICT Derivative, Abuja, Barrister Ayoola Oke gave the charge while addressing consumers during the 81st Telecom Consumers’ Parliament organised by the NCC in Lagos,
adding that the consumers are the paymaster, Director of the industry, since the investment of $12billion so far in 2017 by the operators are paid for by the consumers and so the consumer is the king.
Oke said that the consumers demand is to get reasonably high quality of service, seamless connectivity, little or no disruption, affordable and value for their money, proactive information on service and adequate compensation for loss.
He disclosed that although there are network fallibilities which stems from vagaries of power supply, vandalism, network software glitches and fraudulent hacking, human errors,
the operators should communicate to the consumers that there is a problem through timely information, mitigation matrix, advance education and anticipatory damage control.
Oke underscored that it is imperative for the operators to have a national network by collaborating at the infrastructure level, sharing network facilities and where possible resources,
disengage from anti competitive practice, customers service centres and communication channel that will assist in consumers’ satisfaction in this 2017 that has been declared by NCC as the year of the customer.
He hinted that a lot of customers have gotten compensation through the timely resolution of conflict with their operators.
