I’ll be sworn in as governor of Enugu State on May 29 – Ayogu Eze

Senator Ayogu Eze, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Saturday governorship and state assembly election in Enugu State has boasted that he would become governor of the state come May 29, 2019.

Eze, who was reinstated as governorship candidate of the party by Court of Appeal in Abuja on Thursday, while addressing reporters, decried the removal of his name as candidate of APC from INEC website and list for Enugu governorship election.

He said: “The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has just set aside a judgement that we believe was not supposed to have happened in the first instance but this is Nigeria and it happened and once the judiciary speaks everybody will obey.

“The standard practice has always been when a matter is undergoing litigation the names submitted to INEC stays on the list until that litigation expires but our own was a different case as it was marred by political manipulations and manoeuvring”.

He added that he was now more determined in becoming governor of Enugu State come May 29th, 2019.

“We are matching on and want to assure my supporters that on May 29, 2019, I will be sworn-in as governor of Enugu State”, he said.

Eze thanked his supporters as well as people of the state for remaining steadfast in their support for him while the case lasted.

Meanwhile, the APC has in a written petition to INEC and called for the postponement of Saturday governorship election.

The chairman of the party in Enugu State, Dr. Ben Nwoye, said the postponement became necessary as the commission “depressed its supporters”.

“We have already sent our petition to the chairman of INEC asking them to respect the court order and place the name of our candidate as well as postpone Saturday’s election.

“INEC has depressed the voters so we need a postponement”, he said.

The Daily Times reports that Nwoye led thousands of supporters and party members to the state INEC headquarters in Enugu demanding for postponement of Enugu State election.
