Igbos wants true federalism, good governance, not Biafra -Ubani

Amidst increasing agitations for a sovereign state of Biafra, the Second Vice President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Barrister Oyekachi Monday Ubani has disclosed that major Igbo indigenes and stakeholders who understand the nature of the country want it restructured to guarantee true federalism and good governances, not a Biafra state.
Ubani who stated this in an interview with The Daily Times, noted that the agitation in South Eastern Nigeria was due to the several years of neglect of the region by successive administrations in the country.
He cited the deplorable state of infrastructures in the south East as an example, adding that the resolutions of reconstruction of the region after the civil war has not been implemented by successive administrations.
The former Ikeja NBA chairman stated that the country was defective as presently constituted, stressing that there was the urgent need for restructuring of the country and devolution of power, adding that it would help to resolve the major problems bedeviling the country.
He said: “What the major stakeholders and people in the South East want is restructuring and good governance, if you look at the region you would see after the civil war there have been decay in the region in terms of infrastructure the resolution of reconstruction after the war there have not been addressed. But look at the war in the North; there has been a bill for the reconstruction the North.
There is need to restructure, the system as constituted is defective, put the proper structure in place, most of these inefficiency would be checked.
Speaking on the anti graft war, he stressed that the anti graft agencies were making significant progress, but cautioned the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to do thorough investigation on suspects before arresting them.
