Igbinedion convocation ceremony: Buhari preaches peace

President Muhammadu Buhari has called on Nigerians to maintain peace for the overall economic development of the country.

Reading the President’s speech, representative of the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, Joel Ojo made the call at the weekend at Okada, in Ovia North East Local government of the state during the 15th convocation/award ceremony of Igbinedion University, Okada.

“Let me reiterate the need to embrace peace in Nigeria at all cost because it is the only way the nation can progress and the cost of war is unquantifiable, we should eschew peace and the federal government will continue to provide security at all fronts to protect the citizen of the country,” he said.
He also noted that the federal government’s determination to bring the desired change in the educational sector remains sacrosant, saying that there is still hope for Nigeria in every sector.

” That was the reason we launched strategic ministerial plan to articulate processes and strategies required to harness indigenous manpower to the realisation of the mandate for positive change the people gave us,” he said.
While calling on stakeholders to give maximum support to its effort to transform the education sector, stressing that the federal government recently held presidential retreat on education aimed at making education a necessary tool for economic development,

On his part, former Military Head of State, Gen Abdulsalami Abubakar, noted that it is the responsibility of all Nigerians to maintain peace
” If there is no peace there would be no Nigeria, so it is duty of all to ensure that at all level we maintain peace and also do our own citizens right,” he said.

In his address, the Chancellor of the institution, the Esama of Benin kingdom, Sir Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, noted that the institution has not failed the federal government in granting its license as it has produced manpower for the development of the nation.
He said to encourage more students’ enrolment in the institution, the university has given 30 percent discount for students from the Northern parts of the country.

The Daily Times reports that those given honourary awards were Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, Olorogun Oskar Christopher Ibru, Chief Dr. Innocent Chukwuma, Chairman/CEO, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company.
