Kingsley Chukwuka, Jos
Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seeking to represent the Plateau North Senatorial district at the National Assembly, Barrister Istifanus Gyang, has said he will lead the bill for restructuring in the 9th Assembly if voted as Senator. Gyang who is currently representing Barkinladi/Riyom Federal Constituency in the House of Representative said his people has suffered marginalisation as minorities especially in terms of security and promise to push for laws that will advance the implementation of restructuring the country to save his constituency and by extension Plateau state from the senseless killings that has bedevilled the state. Gyang stated this on Tuesday when he featured at a media forum of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Plateau state. “Plateau has been bedevilled by crisis with wanton killings especially the northern senatorial district which I seek to represent if given the opportunity. “I will also take steps like providing a platform for sustained dialogue, reconciliation and forgiveness: we shall say sorry to each other and asking one another to forgive the deaths of loved once and make fresh commitments to live together. “The passion to sever my people at the red chambers is also focused on giving my constituency a voice and to ensure that government live up to its primary constitutional responsibility of safeguarding the safety of lives and property of citizens in line with Section 4(2), as enshrined in the 1999 constitution (as amended). “The priority to peace and peace building in my legislative agenda shall be twofold: first is providing a platform for sustained dialogue, reconciliation and forgiveness and the second shall address and confront threats to peace. “In the process I shall insist and voice out to the federal and state governments to adopt and implement equity, fairness and justice as the pillars upon which peace is built”, he said.
