What I said about President working from home – Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday evening, corrected the erroneous reporting in a section of the media (not The Daily Times), of his post-Federal Executive Council (FEC) press briefing earlier in the day, noting he never said the President is to work from home henceforth.

In a statement issued in Abuja signed by his Special Adviser, Segun Adeyemi, the Minister said the President only decided to work from home on Wednesday, not that he has decided to work from home henceforth.

He said the headlines in a section of the media, ”Buhari to now work from home – Lai Mohammed,” is a misrepresentation of his statement at the briefing.

Quoting verbatim the relevant section of his briefing, Mohammed said: ”He (the President) wanted to rest TODAY and he asked the VP to preside over TODAY’S meeting. In addition, he also asked that all his files be taken home to him and he will be working from home TODAY.”

But before the FEC meeting commenced on Wednesday, ministers who seemed surprised by the absence of the president were sighted curiously whispering about Buhari’s absence.

It was further gathered that the ministers had awaited the president’s arrival until the state house chief of protocols suddenly stepped in at 11am and whispered to Osinbajo, who then announced the commencement of the meeting to be chaired by him.

About 20 out of 36 ministers were also conspicuously absent from the FEC meeting which took place at the council chambers.

Recall that President Buhari is yet to make public appearances since he returned to the country after a 49-day medical vacation in the United Kingdom. His non-appearance at public functions may not be unconnected to the need for him to rest and recuperate from certain ailment.
