Group cautions monarchs over Okowa

‎The National Union of South South Students and Youths has called on traditional rulers in Delta State to carry everybody along in their dealings with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
The students union body led by its National President, Comrade Stanley Orhorhaghe made the call at a press briefing in Benin City, while insisting that it is high time the political stakeholders in Delta State come out of their shell to ask questions on how and what the Okowa government has done with the huge resources that have accrued to the state, with special reference to the alleged illegal disbursements of funds in Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC.

Orhorhaghe condemned the statement reportedly made by some traditional rulers in Delta North, led by Obi Efeizomor after a purported traditional rulers meeting and published in a national daily (not The Daily Times) of Friday, November 10, 2017, page 12 titled “Stop Inciting Deltans Against Government, Royal Father’s Tell Politicians”.
He said it is unfortunate that those vested with the power to check the action of the executive arm of Government of the state have all compromised.

The youth leader denied being sponsored against the Okowa-led government, but however said that they are worried about the situation of things in the state, where no meaningful development is on ground despite the huge resources that have accrued to the state. He challenged the traditional rulers and the state House of Assembly and other political stakeholders in the state to constructively engage the governor in approaching the issues bordering on the silence over the funds allocated to DESOPADEC so far.

“We the students and youths of the south south are watching and waiting patiently so we can use our votes to correct the ills in governance”.
