Govt. Shall Never Build Industries Again – Enelamah

“It doesn’t matter how well meaning the Federal Government is; the time the government builds industries, staffs them and manages them is gone”

This is a clear case of when truth does not hurt.

It appears the Nigerian government is gradually accepting the reality of its inefficiencies when it comes to running any business.

Now, it wants to act right by removing its hands from building companies or industries.

The fact that less money is flowing into its coffers is speeding up this resolution.

However, federal authorities are adopting a more strategic and pragmatic approach by partnering with private businesses.

According to the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah, who said this during a tour of economic zones in Abia State, “the era when government single-handedly built industries is over”.

The minister was accompanied on the one-day working visit by the Managing Director, Bank of Industry, Olukayode Pitan, and top officials of the state’s Ministry of Trade.

“We take cooperation and partnership with the public and private sectors as sacrosanct in the realisation of our industrialisation and diversification agenda.

“It doesn’t matter how well meaning the Federal Government is; the time the government builds industries, staffs them and manages them is gone. We need partnerships to achieve that,” Enelamah said.

“We need to partner states; we need to partner companies and private individuals,” he added.
