Governor Ortom will soon leave PDP, says APC chair

Benue state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed optimism that with the decamp of immediate past senator, representing Benue North West at the National Assembly, Chief Barnabas Gemade from PDP into APC, governor Samuel Ortom would soon follow suit.

Benue state chairman of the APC, Comrade Abba Yaro made the disclosure, monitored by Daily Times correspondent, at Korinya City in Konshisha local government area of the state on Saturday while receiving the 2019 senatorial candidate of the Social Democratic Party, for Benue North East, senator Barnabas Gemade and his supporters from the PDP into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The APC chairman described as home coming the return of senator Barnabas Gemade into the opposition APC in the state, stressing that, with the development, the party is already  ‘smelling victory’ in Benue state ahead of the forthcoming general election in 2023.

“With the return of Senate Barnabas Gemade back to his ‘home APC’, Benue people should not be surprised if they see Benue state Governor, Samuel Ortom decamping from the PDC to the APC in the coming days ahead”.

The APC chairman who described Benue as bedrock of the All Progressives Congress, led by senator George Akume, said the party’s fence is not tall and is ready to accommodate those from other policy parties. He charged senator Gemade to settle down to share his political experience to move APC forward.

Earlier, the APC Chairman for Benue North East senatorial district, Vincent Uji while receiving senator Gemade from the ward Chairman, assured that the party is now complete and poised to do exploits in future  elections.

He pointed out that as someone who has seen it all, Benue people no longer need a prophet to reveal senator Gemade will work to stabilize the party in the state.

In his  remarks, Senator Gemade stated that he is back into the party in order to forge a common front with APC leader, Senator George Akume. He pointed out that anytime they are together, they form government like when he was the national Chairman of the PDP and Akume was Governor in Benue state.

Senator Gemade said it is high time Benue witnessed infrastructural development and good governance.

Others speakers at the event included, Prof. Kpamor J. T. Orkar,  representatives of John Dyegh and Gen. Onoja. They  all described the return of senator Gemade as good omen for the future of the party and Benue state.
