Gov Al-Makura presents N122.8bn appropriation bill for 2018 fiscal year

Nasarawa State Governor Tanko Al-Makura has presented the 2018 Budget proposal of N122.8billion to the State House of Assembly for consideration and approval.
Al-Makura, who presented the budget in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, assured the state Assembly under the leadership of its speaker, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi of the state government commitment to key in to people-oriented projects that would have direct bearing on the lives of the people.
Daily Times reports that the governor tagged the 2018 appropriation bill as “Budget of sustainable development”
The budget framework shows an increment of Thirty-one Billion, Three Hundred and Thirty-five Million, Two Hundred and Forty-three Thousand, Fifty-three Naira (N31,335,243,053) or 34.25% as against the
2017 appropriation bill of (N91,485,700,231) only.
Al-Makura noted that the budget was aimed at consolidating his administration achievements in fighting poverty, unemployment and to ensure even development in the state.
“I make bold to state that the 2017 Budget recorded optimum performance.
Accordingly, the execution of projects and programmes that have direct bearing on the lives of our people remained our major focus. I am pleased to inform this honourable house that most of the roads construction,
“Hospitals, sports facilities, schools infrastructure, power and water projects, as well as market facilities among other projects have been completed. It is our determination to complete all on-going projects in the State within the next fiscal year.
“Similarly, we have committed enormous resources for the welfare of the physically challenged, women and children, as well as other vulnerable groups in our society. This is in line with our policy on inclusive governance.

Speaker, Honourable Members, I am delighted to lay before you a total budget size of One Hundred and Twenty-two Billion, Eight Hundred and Twenty Million, Nine Hundred and Forty-three Thousand, Two Hundred and Eighty-four Naira (N122,820,943,284) only for the 2018 fiscal year.
“ A total of Forty-five Billion, One Hundred and Ninety Million, Nine Hundred and Forty-one Thousand, Two Hundred and Eighty-four Naira
(N45,190,941,284) representing 36.79% of the budget is earmarked for Recurrent Expenditure.
“And the sum of Seventy-one Billion, Six Million, and Two Thousand Naira (N71,006,002,000) representing 57.81% of the total budget is
earmarked as Capital Expenditure for the year 2018,” he said. Almakura listed areas the budget would focused to include completion of all ongoing project, boosting Agriculture and youth’s empowerment, creation of enabling environment for informal sector in income generation among others
He called on the house members to give the budget proposal speedy passage to enable the state government executes people’s oriented projects for the overall development of the state and the country at large.
Responding, the speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly Alh.Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, assured the state government of the speedy passage of the budget as he announced to the public that the bill has passed its first reading.
“I want to assure Gov.Tanko Al-Makura, his deputy, Silas Agara, his cabinet members and his Aides as well as the good people of Nasarawa state that the 2018 appropriation bill which has just been presented to us would be given expeditious attention,”.
The speaker called on the MDAs in the state to give the various standing committee of the house total cooperation as they discharge their oversight responsibilities.
