Gov Ahmed flags off university multi-campus project

In keeping with multi-campus model of Kwara State University (KWASU), Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed on Wednesday, flagged off construction of N1.5b College of Social Sciences and Environmental Studies, Ekiti Campus in Ekiti Local Government area of the state.

Speaking at the flag off, Gov Ahmed said the execution of critical projects in the state is an eloquent testimony that the Infrastructure Development Fund (IFK) model introduced by his administration has strengthened the capacity of the government to meet its obligations.

According to the governor, the administration remains committed to expanding access to quality education in the state, hoping that the College of Social Sciences and Environmental Studies, Ekiti Campus would breed scientists and thinkers that would proffer solutions to national problems and meet global competitive market in the 21st century.

Governor Ahmed enjoined the people of the state to elevate long and communal interests above personal interest in attracting development to their areas.

The Governor assured the people that more developmental projects would be executed across the state in the coming months with a view to attracting investment into the state.

Also speaking, Vice Chancellor, Kwara State University, Professor Abdulrasheed Na’Allah said with the establishment of Ekiti Campus, KWASU had begun its final journey of operating three campuses, spreading across the state and improving access to university education in the state.

Professor Na’Allah explained that the College would bring the world to Kwara State and would be a source of 21st century industries in the state and Nigeria as a whole.

Earlier in her remarks, the State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Dr Aminat Ahmed disclosed that the project would be completed within fifty-two weeks with a contract sum of N1.5b.

In his goodwill message, the Olosi of Osi, Oba Saliu Abdulkareem Adasofegbe commended Governor Ahmed for fulfilling his electoral promises to the people of Kwara South despite the prevailing economic crunch.

Oba Adasofegbe explained that the establishment of the University would make access to higher education less stressful and sued for peaceful co-existence among the people of the area.
