Gov Ahmed advocates regulatory body for religious preaching

Kwara state governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, has advocated proper regulatory system on religious preaching to avoid extremism, intolerance and misguidance of youths in Nigeria.
The governor made the call at the weekend while receiving the National Executives of Jama’atul Izalatul Bidiah Wal Iqamatil Sunnah (JIBWIS) led by its national chairman, Shaikh Abdullahi Bala-Lau at the Government House, Ilorin.
According to Governor Ahmed, there is an urgent need for religion groups in the country to devise an acceptable and workable means of curtailing indoctrination of youths by religious extremists. He advised JIBWIS to partner with similar religious bodies in ensuring that correct information and teachings that would show the beauty and sweetness of Islam is disseminated in Nigeria.
The governor said there are misrepresentations and misconceptions on various teachings of Islam which must be addressed by relevant Islamic bodies to ensure that the right information is disseminated to the public about Islam.
“As leaders of religious organisations, you have critical roles to play in redirecting the society to live a better God guided direction,” the governor said.
He commended the organisation for its efforts in propagating Islam and for preaching peaceful coexistence in the country.
Governor Ahmed also advocated for acquisition of both western and Islamic education by muslim youths in order to maximise opportunities and properly understand dynamics of the modern world.
