GOC seeks community cooperation, collaboration to tackle insurgency in North East

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division and Commander Sector 1 Operation HADIN KAI, Brigadier General Ugochukwu Unachukwu said the military and security agencies need community cooperation and collaboration to tackle insurgency in North East Zone of Nigeria.

A statement on Wednesday by the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations 7 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Ajemasu Yake Jingina stated that the GOC made the appeal on Tuesday June 3, 2025 when he paid a courtesy visit on the Shehu of Borno’s palace in Maiduguri the Borno State Capital.

Brigadier General Unachukwu expressed his commitment and army unwavering resolve to safeguarding the region and the nation, and apologized for not visiting the Palace earlier than now due to exigency of duty.

He emphasized the importance of seeking the Shehu’s support and prayers for the success of their operational activities.
The GOC assured the Shehu of the military’s readiness to protect the people of Borno and ensure lasting peace.

Responding, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr) Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-kanemi CFR the Shehu of Borno welcomed the GOC and commended the military for their efforts in securing the state. He appreciated their contributions during the Maiduguri flood disaster and assured the GOC of the Borno Emirate Council’s continuous support in the fight against insurgency.

According to the monarch, prior to insurgency, Borno and Maiduguri used to be one of the most peaceful states in the country with people traveling in and out for one business engagement or the other, but those glorious years he said have been truncated by the activities of the insurgents.

However, we sincerely appreciate the unwavering commitment of the military for the peace we enjoy now, and it is our prayers that this menace will finally end. Therefore, I wish you and your men unparalleled victory over the insurgents, and you are most sincerely welcome back home as you continue to serve the nation in your current capacity as the GOC he noted.

The visit underscores the commitment of both traditional and military institutions working together in ensuring the security and stability of Borno State and the nation at large for socio-economic activities to strive.
