Ghana’s president Akufo-Addo elected new ECOWAS Chair
The President of Ghana, Prof. Nana Akufo-Addo has been elected as the new Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Akufo-Addo was elected at the ongoing 57th ECOWAS Summit.

The summit is being held in Niamey, capital of Niger.
Daily Times had reported that president Muhammadu Buhari departed Abuja on Monday, September 7, for Niamey, Niger Republic to participate in the Fifty-Seventh Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.
The one-day summit will deliberate on the Special Report on COVID-19 to be presented by President Buhari who was appointed the ECOWAS Champion on the Fight against COVID-19 during the Extraordinary Virtual Summit of ECOWAS on April 23, 2020.
This will be the second time President Buhari will be travelling out of the country since the outbreak of the dreaded Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Among issues to be discussed include, Ecowas single currency programme, Ecowas vision 2050, Insecurity, Mali junta and Elections for presidential and parliamentary election for Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea and Niger.
