Fuel price hike: Edo DPR goes tough on errant filling stations

Operators of petrol filling stations in Edo State have been given two weeks ultimatum to regularise and renew their operating licenses or face severe measures.

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) said that failure to carry out this directive by any of the operators would result in their facing the full weight of the law.

The state Head of DPR, Mr. Maynard Oriafo, who disclose this to newsmen, said that the new directive was aimed at ensuring that retail outlets conformed to rules, and that anyone who violated it would be deemed to be carrying out illegal activities.

Oriafo led some officials of the agency to some filling stations in Benin-City.

In the course of the monitoring operation, a filling station, Petom Oil and Gas, situated on Benin-Lagos Expressway, was sealed up.

He said the tour was in furtherance of compliance with the new federal government directive that fuel be sold at N135 to N145 per liter.

According to him, “Any offender, who violate the official pump price will have his station sealed, license suspended, while repeated offenders will have theirs revoked.”
