Former champ Campbell-Brown out of 200m

Former Olympic gold medallist Veronica Campbell-Brown suffered a shock exit in the women’s 200m heats on Monday. The 34-year-old Jamaican, the 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing champion, finished third in her heat in 22.97 for only the joint 27th-quickest time. Ivorian Marie-Josee Ta Lou topped the times in Monday’s heats with Americans Deajah Stevens and Tori Bowie in hot pursuit.
 
 
Greece’s Petrounias wins rings gold
Greece’s Eleftherios Petrounias showed off his superior power in the strongman event as he edged out local favourite and 2012 champion Arthur Zanetti to win the rings gold medal at the Rio Olympics on Monday. Petrounias added the Olympic gold to the world the European titles he currently holds with a score of 16.000. Zanetti lost out on the top prize by just 0.234 of a point while Russia’s Denis Abliazin had to settle for bronze.
