Forgery case: PDP BoT storms Senate in solidarity with Ekweremadu

The Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has thrown its weight behind Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, over his on-going trial along with the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and two others at a Federal High Court in Abuja on alleged forgery of the 2015 Senate standing Rules.
The Board Chairman, Senator Walid Jubrin, echoed the position of the party on Tuesday during his visit to its caucus in the Senate.
He condemned what he described as an attempt to tarnish the image of Ekweremadu or rope him in the forgery case and warned that any attempt to remove him would not augur well for the country’s democracy.
The BOT said that the best the present government could do in the circumstance was for the matter to be tried in a fair manner.
The BoT Chairman said he and other members of the party were at the National Assembly to give support to Ekweremadu, whom he described as a man of honour and exemplary character worthy of emulation.
He said that “We are here to give our support to Senator Ekweremadu. He’s a man of honour and a forthright legislator; an exemplary character worthy of emulation by all.
“Nobody should try to tarnish his record. We are not here to pre-empt the decision of the court, but we are calling for fair justice.
“They should not make any attempt at framing Ekeremadu in for any political reasons. Our 48 senators with the support of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senators elected Ekweremadu as Deputy Senate President which is a good omen to enable them legislate for Nigeria.
“No attempt should be made by any group to rope the DSP into this saga. He should be left alone. Any attempt to remove him will not augur well for democracy”.
On the leadership crisis rocking the opposition party, Jubrin said the organs of the party were working hard to resolve the crisis, adding that the party would overcome its crisis.
While, urging the party members to remain calm, he called on those who instituted cases against the party to withdraw them in line with the constitution of the part.
He, however, boasted that the party despite its challenges, chief of which, according to him, was lack of fund, would win all elections, especially the forthcoming Edo gubernatorial election.
