Flood: Niger Gov assures victims, IDPs of adequate welfare

Internally displaced persons in Zungeru Wushishi local government of Niger state have been assured of the state government commitment to their general welfare in the areas of feeding, accommodation and medication.

The state Governor Abubakar Sani Bello represented by his deputy Ahmed Mohammed Ketso gave the assurance when he visited the IDP camp at Zungeru primary school in Wushishi local government area today.

While commending them for their resilience over the submerging of their farmlands, livestock and houses, the governor call for more patience and understanding from the victims disclosing that his administration is doing its best in getting the structural compensation from the federal government to enable them get resettled in the land acquired for them to forestall future occurrence of the flooding.

Bello reaffirmed his administration resolve to resettling all flood prone areas in the state with the collaboration various stakeholders on emergency issues while calling on the federal government to as matter of urgency intervene

by providing relief materials and find a lasting solution to the perennial flooding by permanently resettling victims in safe areas. He then donated additional one million naira in cash for the upkeep of the victims in the camp.

The camp in Zungeru has 689 IDP’s from Gungu, Aboki and Rafin Gora communities of Wushishi and Rafi Local government and all in good health condition and properly accommodated and supervised by the state emergency management agency
