Flood destroys 2, 667 houses, farmlands in 17 Niger LGs– NSEMA

No fewer than 2, 667 houses, farmlands, roads and bridges have been destroyed by flood in 17 local government areas in Niger state.

Director General of the Niger state Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Alhaji Ahmed Inga, disclosed this in an interview in Minna on Thursday.

He said that most of the affected buildings, roads and bridges were completely washed away by flood waters across the 17 local government areas.

Inga said that poultries, culverts, primary schools, clinics, fish ponds and health facilities were also affected.

He said that the incident occurred between August and September, adding that the agency is still receiving more reports on the flood incident.

The director general mentioned some of the affected local government areas as Rafi, Gurara, Paikoro, Suleja, Agaie, Katcha, Kontagora, Gbako and Shiroro.

Other affected areas include Bosso, Chanchaga, Mashegu, Edati, Lavun, Borgu, Lapai and Mokwa.

He said that report on the incident has been submitted to the governor so as to enable the state government provide palliative support to the victims affected by the disaster.
