FG applauds Galaxy Backbone digital inclusion plans

The Federal Government has applauded the roles of Galaxy Backbone Ltd in the digitization of the public sector in the country for a digitally inclusive society.

The Minister of Communication, Barr. Adebayo Shittu gave this accolade at the 14th Innovation Africa Digital Summit 2016 which held in Abuja, recently, adding that the company has the mandate to build and operate a nationwide broadband network that provides IP-based connectivity services to all Federal Government’s Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and institutions.

According to him, Galaxy Backbone focuses on providing ICT infrastructure, applications and services to all Federal Government institutions which includes but not limited to managing Government Data Centers and databases, Directory Services, National Information Repositories, IP-telephony and other solutions/services delivered on the shared platform.

He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for supporting the Ministry of Communications and Galaxy Backbone Ltd who partnered with Extensia Ltd Uk to host the Innovation Africa Digital Summit 2016 in Abuja for the first time.

He explained that Nigeria’s hosting of the summit at this time was most significant due to the fact that the present government in Nigeria was easily the first government since the country’s independence to win election by leveraging the benefits of the ICT and social media in particular.

He reiterated that the time has now come for the government and Nigerians “to fully embrace ICT to enhance our lives, to enhance transparency and good governance if we really are to fulfil the “Change mandate that Nigerians voted President Muhammadu Buhari to bring about.”
