FCT security: CP issues Okada, Keke riders 3-day grace period to vacate city centre

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) commissioner of police and Chairman Ministerial Joint Task force, Mr. Bala Ciroma, has given a three-day of grace to members of commercial motorcycle (Okada) and commercial Keke riders to comply with the standing ban of operating within the city centres as well as limiting operations within the satellite towns as earlier spelt out by the administration.
The Police commissioner said that this has become necessary because such means of commercial transportation remains under enforcement.
Mr. Ciroma, issued the command during the meeting of the Ministerial Joint Task Force (MJTF) and the leadership of the National Tricycle and Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association (NATOMORAS) and the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN), in his office Monday.
The Commissioner of police told the groups to see beyond the commercial benefits of their business and contribute their quota in making the capital city of Nigeria worthy of emulation.
Mr. Ciroma said, “My brothers, the aim of this meeting is for us to give ourselves another ample opportunity to listen to each other and advice us on how to cooperate with each other.
As the head of this operation I would like us to stick to those areas earlier designated for your operations. This has however become necessary because we are beginning to witness some of your members flout the law”.
The Police Commissioner observed that those of them, who have been called to duty, must perform their duties which they are paid for.
He further stressed that the MJTF will after three days, make any defaulter face the full wrath of the law.
Also speaking during the meeting, the Director, FCT Directorate of Road Traffic, Mr. Wadata Bodinga, said his office has perfected moves to ensure that the city centres are rid-off, of illegal commercial vehicle operations.
Mr Bodinga however, appealed to the unions to abide to the rules as government has adopted dialogue as the only means of working relationship with the unions instead of cat and dog race.
