Fayose vs Aluko: Who is fooling who?

While many Lagosians snored on in their beds around midnight of Sunday, April 3, 2016, a drama of unimaginable proportion was being orchestrated at the Eko Hotel and Suites on Lagos Island.

At the hotel were eminent politicians from Ekiti and Osun states, notably Governor Ayodele Fayose and his estranged ‘brother/friend’, Toyin Aluko, among others.

Whatever the reason for the convergence of these people at the hotel, Aluko, a former Secretary of Ekiti PDP, who looked shocked when swarmed on by newsmen, declared that he was there to resolve differences with the Ekiti governor.

Aluko was quoted to have said: “Yes, we had a wedding yesterday, and the whole family came down and we had all other well-meaning Nigerians around. And then in the last one and a half hours, I have met with my brother, Governor Ayodele Fayose, so we are resolving the issue, we have made appreciable progress and we hope and pray to God that there will be peace.” It suggested that the two sworn enemies did move to mend fences at the parley.

But for the Ekiti governor’s team, Aluko’s visit was a good publicity stunt and they feasted on it well.  They gathered men of the media to have Aluko’s interviewed where he claimed they were there to resolve differences.

Of course, Fayose also had words with newshounds where he declared that: “For him (Aluko) to be here shows that there is peace and that there is a step forward. Dr. Aluko came to see me after all the drama for us to move forward. Like he said.”

Less than 24 hour after, Aluko denied ever reconciling with Fayose.

His reasons for saying what he said a day before was that: “My wife was already fidgeting and almost crying and suddenly I could not find her around me. I immediately realised that I need to oblige Governor Fayose’s instruction of facing the press because of the safety of my family.“

Reading in between the lines, he seemed to allege that his wife was briefly taken incommunicado necessitating his shamefacedly peace deal claim. The Fayose-Aluko feud, undoubtedly, is taking a sickening dimension by the day and Nigerians no longer enjoy the drama.
