Eze Aro: Oji receives staff of office from the Abia government

Eberechukwu Oji has been confirmed as the Eze Aro IX of the Arochukwu Kingdom by the Abia State government through the presentation of the Staff of Office to him.

At the Abia State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Umuahia, on Friday, Uzor Nwachukwu, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for Abia State, gave him the mantle of rulership.

Eberechukwu Oji was appointed as the next Eze Aro by the State government, which announced this in a press release on Friday morning. The announcement cited Okennachi Oji’s selection.

Godwin Kanu Idei’s earlier coronation as the Eze Aro was declared void by a report given by the Abia State Board of Panel, which was also cited by the State government.

During his address accepting the Staff of Office, Eberechukwu Oji pledged to bring the people of the Arochukwu Kingdom together and that he would lead them all forward to advance Arochukwu.

“I hope that Arochukwu will become a symbol of traditional Igbo leadership, and that we will live in harmony and uphold perfect balance in all that we do and pursue in the kingdom,” stated Oji.

Speaking earlier, Uzor Nwachukwu, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, encouraged the new monarch to uphold law and order while also charging him to lead with peace, unity, and love.

He acknowledged the tenacity of the Arochukwu people and insisted that the State government had no bearing on Eberechukwu Oji’s rise to power.

However, Godwin Kanu Idei, who contested the throne with Eberechukwu Oji, rejected the news of the presentation of Staff of Office by the Abia State government, saying it was a mere distraction.

“Whatever happened was a mere distraction and does not change the status quo”, Godwin Kanu Idei said.

He urged his supporters to remain calm.
