Exam malpractice: WAEC approves cancellation of results

At the 63rd meeting of the Nigeria Examination Committee, the West Africa Examination Council has approved the cancellation of the entire results in all established cases of examination malpractice arising from the 2016 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School and Private candidates.

In a press release issued by the Public Affairs department of the Council, it stated that the Committee, which is the highest decision making organ of WAEC on examination related matters in Nigeria received reports on irregularities, special and clemency cases arising from the conduct of the 2016 WASSCE and in the course of considering the various reported cases of malpractice approved appropriate sanctions on all established cases.

“It approved entire results of candidates involved in proven cases which attracted cancellation of entire results be canceled while subject results of those involved in proven cases which attracted cancellation of subjects results be canceled”, it stated.

According to the statement, candidates will also suffer other sanctions such as barring them from sitting for Council’s examination for a certain number of years while some examination centers will be delisted.

The Committee also called on government and all stakeholders to intensify the fight against examination malpractices by sanctioning reported erring supervisors and invigilators.
