Ex-Kaduna lawmakers float forum to promote peaceful co-existence

Some former lawmakers in Kaduna State have established a forum aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence and harmonious political activities in the state.
The Forum’s Protem Secretary, Dr. Shehu Adamu, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna on Monday.

According to him, the Forum would provide a platform for the former legislators to make their contributions toward the development of the state, adding that the members of the forum will endeavour to promote peaceful coexistence.
He explained that members cut across political parties, ethnic groups, religions and other affiliations, saying former legislators from 1979 to date are eligible to join the Forum.

Adamu, said that more than 90 former lawmakers have so far registered with the Forum, adding that they have since met and deliberated on its draft constitution.
He expressed belief that the forum is a bold step at fostering unity among the diverse people of the state.

“It’s a step in the right direction, just like we have Former Local Government Councillors’ Forum and Former Local Government Chairmen’s Forum.
“When we come together, it is like Kaduna state has come together; giving us an opportunity to discuss issues and advise government where necessary on how to move the state for award.

“The forum has no party segregation or affiliation because we have members who served under different platforms, NRC, SDP, NPN, PRP, ANPP, CPC, PDP, name them, and we are not under any political party or politician.
“We are simply an independent forum by independent like-minds who want to contribute to the development of our state in any way possible.”

Adamu represented Maigana Constituency in Soba Local Government Area in the state House Assembly from 2007 to 2011 under the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and was a Minority Leader of the Assembly under the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) from 2011 to 2013.
He served as Commissioner of Education in 2015 and later moved to Ministry of Commerce in 2016.
