Establish commission for Tsangaya, Islamic education-Tariqa Tijjaniyya tells FG

The federal government has been called upon to establish a Commission for the Tsangaya and Islamic Education and appoint people that have direct link with the schools towards proper development of education in the country.

The call was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of two days meeting of supreme council of Tijjaniyya Clerics which was signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the Committee, Professor Abdullahi Okene, and Alhaji Nasiru Madaki on Sunday in Bauchi.

The Communiqué read, “with the integration of Tsangaya and Islamic education in to the modern educational system of Nigeria, it will go a long way in the eradication of proliferation of Almajiri system of street begging”.

The communiqué also advice government to enclosed the Tsangaya and Islamiya schools on approved school curriculum and syllabus, that will reduce the menace and proliferation of Almajiri’s in the country.

The statement while appealing to the federal government to reduced hajj fare for intending pilgrims to fulfils religious right and to instruct the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to review the 2017 Hajj fare downward to realistic, human and fair amount so as to make it affordable by pilgrims in this period of economic downturn called on the federal government to take drastic measures on kidnappers and incessant rape cases in the county.

The Supreme Council of Tijjaniyya clerics however resolved that all the Khalifas and Tariqa leaders should educate and sensitize general public on the need for modern system and integration of Tsangaya and Islamic education, urging the leaders and clerics to submit details of their Tsangaya and Islamic Schools to the Sheik Dahiru Bauchi Foundation.
