Enugu Police in manhunt for herbalist treating wounded robbery suspects

The police in Enugu State on Wednesday intensified its manhunt for a herbalist said to be treating wounded robbery suspects in his clinic at Orba community in Udenu Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesman, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu that the police had earlier warned health facilities not to treat anyone with bullet wounds except with permission.

Amaraizu noted that the herbalist had abandoned his herbal clinic over the fear of being arrested by the police.

“The herbalist had allegedly taken custody of an armed robbery suspect from Ohodo community in Igboetiti LGA and was giving him treatment until police operatives struck at his clinic and arrested the suspect with bullet injuries.

“It was further gathered that the suspect alongside others blocked the Enugu-Markurdi expressway at Ohodo Community with heavy logs of wood and were holding motorists hostage at about 2. a.m.

“Acting on a tip off, a combined team of Special Anti-Robbery Squad and military men engaged the robbers in a gun duel while some of the wounded hoodlums escaped into the bush,’’ he said.

He added that the herbal clinic was raided following intelligence report and one of the robbery suspects was nabbed with bullet injuries while the herbalist escaped.

Amaraizu said that the suspect was now helping the police in their investigations.
