Edo govt begins repair work on palace road ahead Oba’s coronation

Irked by the poor state of roads linking the palace of the Oba of Benin, the Edo state government has commenced rehabilitation work ahead of the coronation of a new Oba in Benin Kingdom. The roads being constructed are Ibiwe, Plymouth and Akenzua roads in Benin City.
The Crown Prince of Benin, Prince Ehenede Erediauwa, is expected to relocate to the palace at Plymouth road from Uselu, immediately after the coronation.
Daily Times observed that the contractors have been mobilized to site. They are expected to equally construct the entire neighbouring streets in these areas equipped with street lights and walk ways.
The state Commissioner for Works, Osarodion Ogie Esq, stated that “we are supposed to have commenced the construction of the roads before now but due to the heavy down pour which delayed it. So we want to use the opportunity of this August break to work on the road. And we have told the contractors that they should do everything possible to complete it soonest.
“Governor Adams Oshiomhole is not happy that these roads have not been given a face lift since but as you can see only God can control the weather and not man. But the contractor have been mobilized to site, they are already on it and I am very optimistic that in the next few months it will be completed.
“These areas house our Oba and as you know we don’t joke with our Royal father and it is the duty of the state government to ensure that that area is made comfortable for road users and visitors who throng the palace on a daily basis. So I can tell you work is in progress”, he stated.
