Ebonyi House suspends lawmaker over photograph

The Ebonyi state House of Assembly on Tuesday suspended the member representing Afikpo North East Constituency, Maria Ude-Nwachi for 2 weeks.
Reasons for her suspension were given as gross misconducts and taking photographs in public places and the suspension would last for 14 days pending when the committee constituted by the house to investigate the matter comes up with it reports.
Moving the motion, Hon. Nwobashi maintained that she was recalcitrant to earlier warnings given to her by the house on different occasions.
The State House Leader noted that her activities as a ‘photographer’ have degraded her personality as lawmaker of the state and dragged the image of the house into the mud.
“My honourable colleagues, you would recall that this same house had on several occasions warned Hon. Maria Nwachi over taking photograph in public places.
“And since then we have been watching with keen interest to see if she would turn on a new leaf, but all to no avail. Honourable colleagues I beg you to reason with me because her activities as a photographer in public place is gradually dragging our image to the mud”, he stressed.
But efforts to reach Hon. Nwachi proved abortive as she was not picking her calls.
However, three bills passed second reading at the House among which were the law legalizing the peace accord between the people of Ezillo and Ezza-Ezillo as well as the creation of Amaeze -Ezillo autonomous community in Ishielu Local Government area of the state.
The second was a bill for the prohibition of violence against persons and provide maximum protection and effective remedies for victims and punishment of offenders and other related matters thereto, also passed second reading.
Another was a bill for a law to prohibit quackery in the orthodox medical clinical practice in Ebonyi state and to provide for related matter, which also passed second reading.
