Ebonyi Assembly approves Umahi’s request to procure N3.2bn equipment

Ebonyi state House of Assembly on Tuesday approved the request of Governor David Umahi to purchase equipment from China worth #3.2 billion naira to improve agricultural activities and technological know-how in the state.

The governor in the letter said the request was sequel to his economic tour to China where he entered into agreement with some Chinese firms on procurement of some equipment.

Umahi listed some of the equipment  to include: 5,000 street lights ,260.44 metres of old outdoor display screen, 20,000 solar turbor flashing light, one set of 100,000KVA biomass generating set, two sets of 50KVA solar power system, Rice laboratory equipment and complete set of parboil rice equipment, etc.

He explained that the equipment would be procured when the state would obtain a letter of credit facility from the Central Bank of Nigeria since it had no fund presently.

The equipment will be procured in dollars at the exchange rate of #3480 per dollar according to the letter.

The House Leader, Hon, Joseph Nwaobashi who read the letter at the

plenary also moved the motion that the Governor’s request should be

allowed to sail through in view of his visionary leadership and he was

seconded by Hon. Onu Nwonye.

The House also approved Umahi’s request to inject #20 million naira in

the appointment of more Technical Assistants and #400 million naira

for the empowerment of selected Ebonyians.

In a motion moved by Nwaobash and seconded by kingsley Ikoro , they

urged their colleagues to support the requests knowing the unemployment rate in the country especially in the face of recession currently ravaging the country.

Other Lawmakers who took turns to contribute gave nods to the requests.

The Speaker Francis Ogbonnnaya Nwifuru put the motions on voice votes and they were unanimously supported by the Lawmakers.

The Speaker thanked the Lawmakers for their support and directed the Clerk of the House to make a memo to the governor informing him of the approval of his requests.

Nwifuru later announced one month recess for the lawmakers beginning from yesterday, Tuesday.
